Description
This load was was modeled after our popular 45-70 500 grain hard cast load, and uses a softer alloy (BHN 13) which facilitates expansion on large, heavy game. At 1,450 FPS (in shorter, 18″ barrels) this load is capable of breaking bones and solid penetration- with the added benefit of expansion. Recoil is stout. A copper gas check at the base of the bullet helps prevent gas cutting and fouling.
This load is not suitable in Trapdoor Springfields as the pressure far exceeds what those old rifles can handle. It is safe in all modern 45/70 firearms. The maximum overall length of 2.495″ allows for proper cycling in lever action rifles and use in Magnum Research’s BFR Revolver.
